Charles Caesar was born in St. Petersburg, Florida - a fifth generation resident of the city. He began making photographs during his freshman year of high school and graduated from the BFA Photography program at Parsons School of Design in 2013. Caesar creates imagery at the intersections of magical realism, timelessness, and the elevated-everyday. The celebration of Black, Queer, and Trans identities is always at the forefront of Caesar’s practice as well as the broader exploration of individual stories, beyond labels and traditional signifiers.
Group shows featuring Caesar’s work include Performance, mounted in 2018 at the Färgfabriken Art Center in Stockholm and Daisies, a 2021 group show installed in the Seaport District of Manhattan. In the summer of 2021, Caesar curated Pride @ Saturdays NYC - a group show dedicated to LGBTQIA+ artists and presented for three months in the SoHo gallery space of the Saturdays NYC clothing brand. Editorial clients who have featured Caesar’s photography and writing include New York Magazine, V Magazine, ELLE, them, and office. Caesar’s art practice has also expanded into the self-publication of photography zines including the Night Bell series (2015-2020) and Hillside Views (2021). Caesar currently lives and works in New York City.
